Have been overseas and haven't filed in several years
I have been living overseas for several (5) years, and am just returning to Canada. I haven't been living in Canada or had any financial activity here throughout this time. How with this affect my tax filing situation?

It all depends. If you are a non-resident Canadian during the period you are away, then you are not subject to Canadian tax. Canadians are taxed based on residency. Read more on http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/nnrsdnts/cmm...y-eng.html

Great, thanks! I took a look at the info and it looks like I'll be considered a non-resident, since I had no personal property in or income from Canada during the whole time. There's a form you can fill out and mail to the office in Ottawa to be sure.
